BAR CODES

If you love Australia and the thought of keeping jobs here (instead of building other nations like China), plus you like to eat healthy foods and buy quality products then please read on. Please also note the Australian barcode prefix is 93.DANGEROUS IMPORTED FOODS
The whole world is scared of China making 'black hearted goods'.Can you differentiate which one is made in the USA , Philippines , Taiwan or China ? For your Information ... the first 3 digits of the barcode is the country code wherein the product was made. Example: all barcodes that start with 690.691.692 until 695 are all MADE IN CHINA. cid:D80EF23280CA4F80BFABA7FD0BFDD4DE@peter0313e1af1
4 71 is Made in Taiwan.. Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products 'made in china', so they don't show from which country it is made.
However, you may now refer to the barcode, remember if the first 3 digits is 690 to 695, then it is Made in China .

Benzoic acid (210)

During my childhood soft drinks were only served as a special treat at a birthday party. Now today it's quite common for children to drink some form of soft drink on a daily basis.

Benzoic Acid is a preservative that is added to prevent mould developing in soft drinks. However, a recent landmark study in the U.K. of 153 3yr.olds and 144 ,5-9yr.olds found that benzoic acid caused adverse reactions in 79% of the children. To make matters worse benzoates react with Vitamin C to produce benzene- an aggressive carcinogen.

Beta carotene (160a)

Beta carotene is a much safer natural yellow colour. It is widely used in Europe but our food authority FSANZ states that it is too difficult & too expensive to use! I find that the easiest way to remember this is that a) stands for affable & b) stands for BAD!!!
Just checked our ACTIVA mango yogurts & they contain no numbers but instead the name 'annatto extracts' are used. Just shows us how alert we need to  be!

Annatto (160b)

Annatto(160b) is marketed aggresssively as a 'natural' yellow colouring. Although this is true, it gives the impression it is safe when in fact, it can cause head banging in young children as well as restlessness, irritability and sleep disturbance. Annatto is widely used in dairy foods including yogurts, ice creams and cheeses as well as a wide range of snack foods.

Did you know that alot of the cosemetic food colours are derived from coal tar dyes?
Tartrazine E102 is a yellow colouring added to lollies, icecream, cordials, gum and even Wokka Noodles.
It is banned in Norway and Austria as it disrupts the metabolism of zinc- hence the link to ADD or ADHD symptoms.

Food Inc (trailer)

Filmmaker Robert Keller lifts the veil on America's food industry. Supermarkets give the impression of a huge diversity of products whereas in reality the core ingredients are  corn.
