Go Natural Organic Licorice

Go Natural Organic Licorice- This product contains organic ground licorice root, not flavours or extracts, to give you the great authentic taste of real licorice. The licorice root has been prescribed throughout history because of it's numerous health benefits.Licorice root contains many anti-depressant compounds and is an excellent alternative to St. John's Wort. As a herbal medicine it has an impressive list of well documented uses and is probably one of the most over-looked of all herbal wonders.
Licorice also appears to enhance immunity by boosting levels of interferon, a key immune system chemical that fights off attacking viruses. It also contains powerful antioxidants as well as certain phytoestrogens that can perform some of the functions of the body's natural estrogens; very helpful during  menopause. Possibly by its action on the adrenal glands, licorice has the ability to improve resistance to stress. It should be thought of during times of both physical and emotional stress, after surgery or during convalescence, or when feeling tired and run down. ENJOY!

Pepsi Next

After featuring Coca-Cola's Zero soft drink a number of people were concerned they would have to forgo their spirit drinks! At the time, I suggested using 'normal coke', adding that it was still not a good solution. Then on Thursday afternoon I made it a point to wander down the soft drink aisle of a supermarket.

To my surprise Pepsi have replaced 30% of the sugar content with Stevia (a natural sweetener which I featured some time ago). What a pleasant surprise- still has 150d (safety is suspect) & flavours (i.e. MSG) but there are NO ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS IN Pepsi Next! Look out for other companies to follow suit. In Japan, all Coca-Cola drinks already contain Stevia.

Coca-Cola Zero soft drink

Coca-Cola Zero- Late this afternoon I watched an overweight lady pushing her trolley full of 2 boxes of Coca-Cola Zero cans out of the supermarket. My first thought was there is no way she will become thinner whilst drinking this poison. It has not 1, but 2 artificial sweeteners in it (951 Acesulphame potassium, & 950 Aspartame). 950 has caused cancer and tumours in animal tests whilst 951, Aspartame is implicated in over 92 health problems. It can cause damage to brain cells, headaches, migraines, depression, mood swings, fatigue, irritability, insomnia, vision problems, hearing loss, foggy thinking & brain tumours. And, if this is not enough, it can interfere with the hormone, Leptin that is responsible for our body/brain suppressing appetite.
She may never know when she is full. The colour 150d has been linked to gastro intestinal problems & it's safety is suspect.
According to research the preservative 211, Sodium Benzoate which prevents the coke from going mouldy, has the ability to deactivate parts of DNA and eventually cause diseases such as Parkinson's and cirrhosis of the liver.
Please pass this information on- consumers need to know the truth.

Nestle Soleil Diet

Nestle Soleil Diet: Last week I spoke about the fact that when the fat is taken out of a product other nasties are used to enhance the flavour of the product. Nestle's Soleil Diet Yogurt is no exception ( along with all other diet yogurts!).

How are you supposed to stay thin when Fructose is 7th on the ingredient list? Flavours (i.e. MSG) is 9th- this makes you want to eat more- very slimming!! Then, the artificial sweeteners 951, & 950 are added. These are both very dangerous excitotoxins & literally excite your brain cells to death, plus, are linked with the formation of brain tumours. BEWARE THE 'DIET' PRODUCT.

PRODUCT OF THE WEEK

LIFE energy ALKALINE MINERAL WATER: Water is an important structural component of skin cartilage, tissues and organs. For human beings, every part of the body is dependent on water. Our body comprises about 75% water: the brain has 85%, blood is 90%, muscles are 75%, kidney is 82% and bones are 22% water. The functions of our glands and organs will eventually deteriorate if they are not nourished with good, clean water.
The recommended 1.5 to 2 litres of water a day will flush out your digestive system, speed up your metabolism, boost your immunity and minimise your risk to a host of degenerative conditions. It really is that simple. Give the human body what it needs most – pure water, preferably mineral water- and it will function better. Available at Mrs. Flannerys & other health stores. ENJOY!

Breakfast Cereals

Some 'Nutrition experts'  promote the quality of breakfast cereals, saying that they are of higher quality now than they were several years ago when fat content was much higher.
What is not taken into account, however, is that when food manufacturers remove fat from a product, they put sugar in it's place. In the case of 'diet yogurts' it's even worse- they add artificial sweeteners. They market theses products as 'low fat' thus promoting the idea that low fat equates to healthy.IT NEVER DOES.

Indomie Mi Goreng Noodles

Today I am following up on a request from one of my blog readers. They wanted to know what is in the Indomie Goreng noodles. I normally just pass by this section of the supermarket but today, when I really looked, I was amazed at how many flavours are available & the large a shelf space these noodles take up!
The seasoning powder has salt & sugar listed first & second; 621,631 &627 (Flavour Enhancers) 3rd; & yeast extract ( MSG) last.
The chili sauce has the same three flavour enhancers (621,631 & 627); garlic flavour & preservatives 211 & 223 both of which asthmatics should avoid & both of which can cause behavioural problems.
Certainly not the wisest choice for brain health.

How MSG is disguised in our food

Many consumers know that the number 621 stands for MSG. However, fewer realize that food manufacturers are using other non-regulated ingredients that contain MSG, but aren't pure MSG, to avoid having to list MSG on their labels.
Here is a list of additives that always contain MSG: (extract from 'Excitotoxins: the Taste that Kills', Dr. R. Blaylock M.D.)
Autolyzed yeast                                                    Monopotassium glutamate
Calcium caseinate                                                 Monosodium glutamate
Glutamate                                                             Potassium glutamate
Hydrolyzed corn gluten                                         Sodium caseinate
Hydrolyzed vegetable protein                                Textured protein
Hydrolyzed protein                                               Yeast extract
Hydrolyzed (anything else!)                                   Yeast nutrient

Continental Cup of Soup

There are numerous flavours available on our supermarket shelves of Continental Cup of Soup: Hearty Vegetable, Pumpkin, Lots of Noodles Chicken & Corn, Cream of Chicken, Lots of Noodles Chicken etc.
In the Lots of Noodles Chicken the 3rd ingredient listed is Maltodextrin (a form of MSG), the 6th ingredient are Flavour Enhancers 621 (MSG) & 635 (Disodium 5'- ribonucleotides). These flavour enhancers are banned in other countries but are very common in Australian foods. 635 can cause itchy skin rashes, hyperactivity & mood changes. The 9th ingredient listed is hydrolyzed corn protein (another source of MSG!) All good reasons to make it yourself!

PRODUCT OF THE WEEK

PRODUCT OF THE WEEK- Green & Blacks Organic Dark Chocolate 85%. ( Hint- try the 70% first & work up to the 85%). Dark chocolate has many health benefits- I have been a dark chocolate consumer for decades! Adding only 15grams of dark chocolate to your daily diet is enough to increase total antioxidant capacity by 4% (thanks to the polyphenols- protective antioxidants also found in red wine & green tea). It also lessens oxidation of LDL cholesterol as most of the saturated fat content in cocoa butter is stearic acid. Numerous studies have shown that stearic acid does not raise blood cholesterol levels. In fact, in the human body  it acts much like the mono-unsaturated fat in olive oil. ENJOY!

'Safe' Jelly

Some people have asked me what is the safest brand of commercial jelly to eat. So here it is: the brand is Brookdale & it's available from Aldi Stores in a number of flavours. Unlike other well known brands which use the 100 numbers (102,104,110,124,151 etc) that are carcinogenic coal tar dyes that provide the bright colours, Brookdale Strawberry jelly has 2 colours listed 163 & 160c. However, 163 is a grape skin or blackcurrant extract (non carcinogenic, but asthmatics should avoid this) and 160c is Paprika oleoresins (little info is available). It does state that it contains sulphites, so again, asthmatics should avoid this.
It also states 'Natural Strawberry flavour' but this could be a combination of chemicals (sorry!). Still better than carcinogenic dyes that are linked to hyperactivity.

The horrors of MSG

Take time to watch the video clip above. It is only 6 mins long, but is packed with the main points that John Erb has to say about MSG in his book, 'The Slow Poisoning of America'. Scientists inject mice with MSG to study obesity & diabetes! Yet, we have it added to an endless array of manufactured food, & numerous professions are still at a loss as to what is causing the epidemic of diabetes & obesity!

ZOMBIE CHEWS sour grape

Whilst on duty today at school I found this confectionery wrapper &, having recently listened to Dr. Russell Blaylock talking about the 'great dumbing down of society' I was keen to get my glasses on & investigate the list of ingredients. Bearing in mind that there is 5% of ingredients that legally don't have to be listed (YET!)

The 1st ingredient ,'glucose syrup from corn' seems to me to be a fancy way of saying 'fructose corn syrup'. The 3rd ingredient 'glucose powder from corn' seems as if it means 'powdered fructose'. Hydrogenated vegetable oil & artificial flavourings speak of MSG & the last ingredient, 'Permitted Food Colours 129, 133 just made me very angry.
129 is Allura Red- a suspected carcinogen which has been banned in Denmark, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria & Norway.
133 is Brillant Blue- a suspected carcinogen, linked to hyperactivity & asthmatics would be wise to avoid this additive. 133 is banned in Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Austria and Norway. WHY IS OUR CHILDREN'S HEALTH OF LESS IMPORTANCE TO OUR FOOD AUTHORITIES THAN THOSE CHILDREN IN THE ABOVE MENTIONED COUNTRIES?

The Dangers of MSG- Part2a)

I hope you will take 7 mins out orf your busy day to watch this YouTube clip of how MSG can affect brain function. Dr. Russell Blaylock also speaks during this clip.

The link between MSG & Obesity

I trust that you will enjoy this enlightening You Tube clip on MSG- it features my favourite neurosurgeon, Dr. Russell Blaylock M.D. Many of the items I have featured lately have MSG disguised under other names - remember it has over 52 aliases, is a poison to your brain & can cause weight gain.

VIVE UP & GO

Although it took me quite a while to read the ingredient list (even with my glasses on!), I found an equal number of good and not so good ingredients. It was pleasing to see filtered water was the 1st ingredient & stevia (the safe sweetener) was last.
However, Wheat Maltodextrin (3rd), Soya Protein (4th) are both forms of MSG.
Two vegetable oils (Sunflower & Canola) are listed 5th & the worst form of sugar, Fructose is 7th on the list! Fresh fruit is looking so much better!
